Uniform and Optimal Error Estimates of an Exponential Wave Integrator Sine Pseudospectral Method for the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Wave Operator
We propose an exponential wave integrator sine pseudospectral (EWI-SP) method for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with wave operator (NLSW), and carry out rigorous error analysis. The NLSW is NLS perturbed by the wave operator with strength described by a dimensionless parameter ε ∈ (0, 1]. As ε → 0, the NLSW converges to the NLS and for the small perturbation, i.e. 0 < ε ≪ 1, the solu...
متن کاملDiscretization error estimates in maximum norm for convergent splittings of matrices with a monotone preconditioning part
For finite difference matrices that are monotone, a discretization error estimate in maximum norm follows from the truncation errors of the discretization. It enables also discretization error estimates for derivatives of the solution. These results are extended to convergent operator splittings of the difference matrix where the major, preconditioning part is monotone but the whole operator is...
متن کاملHigh order splitting methods for analytic semigroups exist
In this paper, we are concerned with the construction and analysis of high order exponential splitting methods for the time integration of abstract evolution equations which are evolved by analytic semigroups. We derive a new class of splitting methods of orders three to fourteen based on complex coefficients. An optimal convergence analysis is presented for the methods when applied to equation...
متن کاملDefect-based local error estimators for splitting methods, with application to Schrödinger equations, Part I: The linear case
We introduce a defect correction principle for exponential operator splitting methods applied to time-dependent linear Schrödinger equations and construct a posteriori local error estimators for the Lie–Trotter and Strang splitting methods. Under natural commutator bounds on the involved operators we prove asymptotical correctness of the local error estimators, and along the way recover the kno...
متن کاملDomain Decomposition Operator Splittings for the Solution of Parabolic Equations
We study domain decomposition counterparts of the classical alternating direction implicit (ADI) and fractional step (FS) methods for solving the large linear systems arising from the implicit time stepping of parabolic equations. In the classical ADI and FS methods for parabolic equations, the elliptic operator is split along coordinate axes; they yield tridiagonal linear systems whenever a un...
